As a cabinet painter in Jacksonville, FL, I've had the privilege of seeing countless homes undergo stunning transformations. With the holiday season fast approaching, it's the perfect time to infuse your living space with festive cheer. While cabinets are often the canvas for my work, there's so much more you can do to create a magical Christmas atmosphere. In this blog, I'll share some creative ideas to help you decorate your home's interior in unique and delightful ways.

  1. Festive Cabinet Accents:

Start with the heart of my expertise - the cabinets. Consider giving them a touch of holiday magic by adding wreaths or garlands with battery-operated lights. The juxtaposition of a freshly painted cabinet against the vibrant greenery can be truly enchanting.

  2. Seasonal Centerpieces:

Elevate your dining experience with a stunning Christmas centerpiece. Arrange a mix of evergreen branches, pinecones, and decorative ornaments in a beautiful vase or tray. Add candles for a warm, inviting glow.

  3. Themed Kitchen Towels:

Spruce up your kitchen with holiday-themed towels. Look for patterns that complement your cabinet colors and add a festive touch to the room. These small details can make a big difference in creating a cohesive holiday atmosphere.

  4. Christmas Tree Ornaments as Cabinet Pulls:

Replace your regular cabinet pulls with holiday-themed ornaments. This clever and temporary swap brings a touch of Christmas whimsy to your cabinets without any permanent changes.

  5. Window Decor:

Adorn your windows with wreaths, fairy lights, or even hand-painted holiday scenes. The soft glow of lights in the evening will give your home a warm and welcoming ambiance.

  6. Stockings in Unexpected Places:

Why limit stockings to the fireplace? Hang them from cabinet handles, stair banisters, or even on the back of dining chairs. Personalize each stocking to add a special touch for each family member.

  7. Seasonal Pillows and Throws:

Swap out your regular pillows and throws for ones in festive colors and patterns. Plaid, reindeer motifs, and classic reds and greens can instantly transform your living space.

  8. Candles and Fairy Lights:

Scatter candles and fairy lights strategically around your home. Place them on shelves, mantels, and even inside glass-fronted cabinets to create a warm, inviting glow.

  9. Edible Decor:

Incorporate edible decorations like gingerbread houses, candy canes, and bowls of festive treats. They not only look charming but also add a delightful aroma to your home.

  10. DIY Advent Calendar:

Create a unique advent calendar using small boxes or envelopes. Hang them from a garland or arrange them on a cabinet door. Fill each box with treats or small gifts for a daily dose of holiday joy.

As a cabinet painter in Jacksonville, FL, I've learned that decorating for Christmas is a joyful opportunity to let your creativity shine. From cabinet accents to whimsical ornaments, there are countless ways to infuse your home with festive cheer. By incorporating these ideas, you can create a warm and inviting space that captures the magic of the holiday season. So, grab your paintbrush and let's transform your home into a winter wonderland!

Additional Kitchen Storage

Today we are talking storage, more specifically kitchen storage! God bless it, does any kitchen really ever have enough storage?! Sure, there might be a rare kitchen or two out there, kissed by a professional’s touch right from the get-go. Those kitchens are a storage fairy tale come true.

Hey Y’all!! Today we are talking storage, more specifically kitchen storage! God bless it, does any kitchen really ever have enough storage?! Sure, there might be a rare kitchen or two out there, kissed by a professional’s touch right from the get-go. Those kitchens are a storage fairy tale come true. But for every kitchen blessed with ample storage there’s a whole mess of kitchens that just don’t quite measure up, struggling to serve us like they ought to! (Mine’s no exception, but someday….)

Now, let me tell you, there are a couple items I hear in client consultations over and over again. Adding more storage makes the list in the top five request! If you are like me and many clients, we all have special serving pieces, family treasure pieces, holiday dishes, kitchen odds ‘n’ ends we don’t use on the daily but good gracious would not dream of parting ways with them. (Lord,I have all of them too!) And wouldn’t you know it, those items are the trickiest to find a place for. What is the solution? Is it to tear down the existing kitchen and start over? Well, I’d probably say not in many cases.

Now, If budget wasn’t leading the dance, then maybe we would all be singing a different tune. But, more often than not the budget is the main act. Of course, if you go gut that kitchen and start over, surviving that major kitchen remodel is quite a bit of hoopla, to say the least. Complete kitchen overhauls can leave you kitchen-less depending on your contractor for weeks and stretching into months. And let me tell you, living without a kitchen is just not practical for most modern families. (And sure not happening with my crazy clan!)

So, what’s one to do? Well, you have to get creative in using existing space to work double time for you. While this is not for every client and kitchen, it has served me well for many clients. Adding cabinets to existing layouts and then refinishing all the cabinets to match gives your storage a real boost.

If you have dead space lingering above your cabinets, adding a second row of stacked cabinets is sure fire way to wrestle up great usable storage.

SO let me share a sweet secret with y’all! Additional stacked upper cabinets provide the perfect place to tuck away those items not frequently used in the kitchen. Store your cherished family crystal, or fancy serving platters that you only pull out on special occasions (or if your like me, for a good party). Store the extra water bottles you only use when your favorite has gone MIA. Or maybe if you are like so many others, the overflow of collectible coffee cups from all your travels are best suited a little higher up where they are less likely to be broken.

I had the sweetest client and she loved to cook and bake. She had a whole mess of specialty items that she had to store in her guest room and garage because they had no place to call home. Her kitchen was run of the mill builder grade which did not offer enough space to store all her baking needs. Can you imagine how inconvenient to run out to the garage and dig around in the dust to find what she needed?

With her grand ceilings and petite upper cabinets, I knew this kitchen was needing some charm from stacked upper cabinets. Now, I am so blessed, I have a cabinet wizard I work with repeatedly. He is amazing working his magic matching door styles and crafting cabinet frames to fit like a glove with the ones already in place. This was a much better option than replacing all the cabinets in the kitchen. And the best part? It was a fraction of the cost compared to tossing the existing cabinets and installing all new.

Once our cabinet wizard worked his magic and the new cabinets were in, we refinished the existing cabinetry and new pre primed cabinetry all together in the clients preferred color combinations along with sprinkling some other new upgrades to the kitchen and eliminated her storage issues.

While I love stacked upper cabinets for functional storage, another thing is stacked cabinets that show off some of those items that make a heart happy. Installing that additional row of cabinets can provide the perfect protected space to display collectibles, pottery, family heirlooms and artwork in the kitchen. Glass front doors on stacked cabinets help to maintain an open feeling in the space but also keep it classy and elegant while having your cherished pieces on full display.

Additionally adding glass front cabinets above is a great way to modernize the kitchen without a complete overhaul and also a creative trick when trying to match existing doors profiles that are discontinued or hard to find.

Now, if all this additional storage doesn’t get your heart dancing, I don’t know what will. We have saved money, used creativity and added class and charm. So, when life gives you a kitchen with more stuff than space, get inventive, call on a trusty cabinet whiz and a professional cabinet refinisher and give that kitchen a touch of charm.

Embrace the Season: Unique Ways to Decorate Your Home for Fall

As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, it's time to infuse your home with the cozy and inviting ambiance of fall. While pumpkins and autumn wreaths are classic choices, why not explore some unique ways to decorate your home for the season? In this blog post, we'll share creative and unexpected ideas that will add warmth, charm, and a touch of whimsy to your living spaces. Get ready to embrace the season and transform your home into an autumnal wonderland!

  1. Nature's Bounty: Instead of sticking to traditional decor, bring the beauty of nature indoors by showcasing fall's abundant offerings. Fill large glass vases or bowls with colorful leaves, pinecones, acorns, and dried flowers. Consider creating a captivating centerpiece using a collection of gourds, pumpkins, and seasonal fruits. Not only will this bring the essence of fall to your home, but it will also create a rustic and organic feel.

  2. Moody Color Palette: While oranges and browns are synonymous with fall, you can explore a more unconventional color scheme to evoke a cozy atmosphere. Incorporate deep burgundy, rich plum, forest green, and mustard yellow accents in your decor. Add throw pillows, blankets, and curtains in these hues to create a warm and inviting space. Consider painting an accent wall in a deep, moody color to set the tone for the season.

  3. Dried Flower Arrangements: Fall offers a stunning variety of dried flowers that can be used to create unique and long-lasting floral arrangements. Look for dried hydrangeas, wheat stalks, dried lavender, and eucalyptus branches. Combine these elements to make beautiful bouquets or create delicate wreaths to hang on your doors or walls. These dried floral arrangements add texture, earthiness, and a touch of vintage charm to your home.

  4. Warm Lighting: As the days grow shorter, embrace the warm glow of cozy lighting to create a magical ambiance. Swap out bright white bulbs for soft, warm-toned ones throughout your home. Utilize candles, fairy lights, and lanterns to add a gentle and romantic atmosphere. Consider placing candles inside hollowed-out pumpkins or gourds to create a unique and enchanting display.

  5. Seasonal Art and Textiles: Give your walls a fall makeover by incorporating seasonal art and textiles. Look for autumn-inspired prints, such as landscapes with fiery foliage or abstract pieces in warm tones. Switch out lightweight summer curtains for heavier fabrics like velvet or wool in autumnal colors. Don't forget to update your throw pillows and blankets with cozy textures and fall-inspired patterns, like plaids or herringbone.

  6. Harvest-Inspired Tablescapes: Take your fall decor to the dining table by creating a stunning harvest-inspired tablescape. Incorporate natural elements like burlap table runners, wooden chargers, and twine-wrapped napkins. Arrange mini pumpkins, gourds, and seasonal fruits as a centerpiece, interspersed with candles or fall-themed place cards. This unique and inviting tablescape will make any meal feel like a special autumn gathering.

This fall, go beyond the traditional and explore unique ways to decorate your home. Embrace the season's natural beauty, experiment with colors, incorporate dried flowers, and create warm and inviting lighting. Infuse your living spaces with the essence of fall by incorporating these creative and unexpected touches. Let your imagination run wild and transform your home into a cozy haven that truly captures the spirit of autumn.
